Mary Ann (Scherber) Lindenfelser, 86, (formerly of Aitkin and Otsego, MN) passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at The Legacy in St. Michael, MN. Mary was born on January 30, 1931, in Rogers, MN to Walter and Rose Scherber. |
Mary attended a small country school and then Osseo High School. On May 1, 1948, she married Herbert (Sonny) Lindenfelser at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Osseo, Mn. They resided on a farm in the Otsego area and raised six daughters. In 1985, they retired and moved to a beautiful property on Elm Island Lake near Aitkin, MN, which provided a wonderful gathering place for their family, grandchildren and extended family members and friends to visit. Mary was referred to by many as “Mother Mary”.
Mary was a wonderful cook and baker. Her Grandma Mary juice was a big hit with the grandchildren. Mary enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, quilting, Bingo, casino gaming, playing dominoes, board games and cards, especially cribbage. She also gained satisfaction from her flower gardens, watching the birds and deer, and observing the action on and around the lake. Mary was the touchstone of her family, always gathering information and passing it on so family members would be kept abreast of any family news. All were welcome to join her for a beverage, a sweet treat and a fun conversation. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting and celebrating events with family and friends, as long as she was not the center of attention.
Mary is survived by her children: Carol Lindenfelser of Otsego; Janice (Floyd) May of Rush City; Joanne (Thomas) Schillewaert of Monticello; Laura (Kelli Mullett) Lindenfelser of Ham Lake; Lynn Lindenfelser of Albertville; and Darlene (Jerry) Johnson of Aitkin. She is also survived by sister, Beatrice Kirscht of Inver Grove Heights; brother, Donald (Ellie) Scherber of Ossseo; in-laws: Gordy Ebert of Menahga; Lyle (Nona) Lindenfelser of Otsego; Glenn (Marge) Lindenfelser of Albertville and Eldred (Marilyn) Lindenfelser of Aitkin. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; parents, Walter and Rose; brothers, Walter, Jr., and Adrian; sisters, Annette Ebert and Yvonne (Sophie) Lent; and grandsons Ryan and Randall May.
